What To Visit In Boston

What is the easiest way to move from Burlington to Boston MA?
I’m going to be visiting Boston for a week but the Hotel we’re staying in is located in Burlington. Is renting a car a good option? (Taking in count I’ve never drove around Boston before) Are there public transportation options to be moving from one place to the other all week?
NOTE:Please if you give advice about bus or train options be as specific as you can, thanks.
Burlington is not very far away from Boston, perhaps twenty miles at most. There may be a commuter rail train that runs to North Station but renting a car would be by far the simplest solution. Once in the city it is easily navigable using the MBTA trains and trolleys. The link will give you some insight to its workings. Good luck and have a pleasant stay.
