Can my FL licensed 17 year old drive other minors while in vacationing in California?
California has a new law that does not allow driver’s under the age of 18 to drive passengers that are under the age of 18 (unless they are siblings) Does my FL licensed 17 year old have to follow these rules while vacationing in California?
The California limitations apply to a person driving with a California provisional license. Those limitations will not apply to a person lawfully licensed in another state (unless such limitations exist in that state). However, your 17-year-old is not going to be able to drive in California for more than 10 days unless he gets a nonresident minor’s certificate from the Department of Motor Vehicles. This is all in Veh C 12504.
